2011 Spelling Bee

The South Asian Spelling Bee is once again searching for another champion by placing a call to the South Asian-American or Desi communities to register for the 2011 desi spelling bee.
Spelling bees are a fun way to encourage students in spelling skills, study habits, as well as individual and team competition.  Contestants are presented with a variety of words to spell and are eliminated on a miss-and-out basis.  The single student or team that wins goes on to compete at a higher level with competitors from other areas.  The Spelling Bee competitions can be restricted to a local district level, but they may also progress to regional or national levels.  A short time ago, there were several bestseller books and well received movies about kids and the ordeal and preparation of spelling bee competition. These gave the uninitiated a glimpse at the rigor of training the bee participants undergo.   At every age and grade, kids, parents, and teachers can enjoy the challenge of a spelling bee.
The preparatory groundwork typically involves immersion in thousands of words; consequently, a broad base of knowledge is transferred as words are studied and spelled.  Any venue is fair game for a potential word challenge.  Spelling list are derived from literature, science, archeology, history, sports, and art.
In a continuing effort to advance South Asian youth and showcase their skills, Sony Entertainment Television (SET) Asia is once again sponsoring the highly successful and celebrated South Asian Spelling Bee.  Students, age 8 to 14 who have at least one parent or grandparent of South Asian decent have the opportunity to participate in a regional South Asian Spelling Bee.
Families across the nation look forward to the competitions.  From Chicago, Atlanta, New Jersey, New York, and Los Angeles, entire families get involved in the training for the Asian Spelling Bee.  With a common spirit of effort, accomplishment, fun, and competition, families of competitors try to test their champions with new words.  On the day of the spelling bee, there is a heightened anticipation as relatives come together to support and celebrate their children.
